Volunteers Week 2024

Published on 03 June 2024 12:00 PM

Thank you!

This Volunteers' week, we'd like to take the opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers for their generosity and dedication as a volunteer with Age UK WMHL.

Thanks to their time, energy and efforts, we have been able to be there for more older people when they need us most. Their contribution to our mission is hugely appreciated!

Could you help by giving back your free time to change an older person’s life?

Age UK Worcester, Malvern Hills & Hereford Localities relies on the support of its volunteers from across Worcestershire. Without the selfless acts of these general public volunteers, we would not be able to operate in the way we do today. Our volunteers not only help provide crucial funding for the charity, but also work directly with a lot of our clients to provide lifelines through our services and social activities.

Volunteering does not have to be a chore. It can be an avenue for people to explore their interests, extend their skillset, give back to their local community and achieve a sense of purpose. It is also a great way for students and other young people to get experience of the workplace and grow their confidence and great for older people who may be retired and are looking to keep active and stay involved in their community.

What are the benefits of volunteering with us? On top of learning new skills, developing your confidence, gaining workplace experience, getting involved in your community and making lasting friendships, we will:

  • Reimburse you for reasonable travel costs that you may incur for carrying out the role
  • Provide ongoing support and training where relevant
  • Include you in our wider volunteer network, where you will be invited to our group events.

We offer a great range of voluntary roles and with an ever-growing client base, we are always on the lookout for volunteers. The following voluntary roles are currently available:

  • Community Befriending
  • Computer Tutor
  • Dementia Services
  • eBay Assistant
  • Foot Care Assistant
  • Information & Advice Assistant
  • Retail Assistant
  • Social Activities Assistant

Juliette Kay, Volunteer Coordinator at Age UK WMHL, says,

“Our volunteers are hugely important in the day-to-day operation of the charity. Without them, we simply would not be able to run many of the services and activities that we do today. We have numerous volunteers that selflessly give their time to support our clients and they have all profited from the experience. Volunteering does not have to be a major commitment, even just a couple of hours a week is enough to make a difference.”
