We are searching for passionate and caring volunteers to join our Day Centre at The William & Patricia Venton Centre, Mount Gould.

Volunteering can make a difference to you, a huge difference to our clients and Age UK Plymouth

The Role

We run a range of activities within our Day Centre such as quizzes, learning new skills, dancing, singing, crafting, games, indoor sports, theme days, and much more.

We are passionate about providing our clients with an amazing experience and we would love for you to join us. As a volunteer you will interact with our clients, help and support the group lead, assist in setting up the room, make much needed refreshments and encourage everyone to join in and interact within the sessions. However, there is so much more to this role benefiting both the clients and the entire team.

Are you passionate about supporting your local community? Can you add a bit of sparkle to someone’s day? If the answer is yes then we would love to hear from you. To be successful in this role you need you to have a caring nature, good organisational skills, be a good listener, be honest, reliable, empathetic, and enjoy being part of a team.

Responsible to

What will you get out of it?

    • You will make a difference to our clients
    • You will feel valued (volunteer celebration week in June, to name one event)
    • You will learn new skills
    • You will make new friendships
    • You get to be a part of Age UK Plymouth Volunteer Team

Meet our Volunteers!

After a 40 year career as a childcare provider Ann wasn't sure if she would be a good fit for Age UK Plymouth. 20 years later, Ann has loved volunteering with the charity and is currently a day centre volunteer.

WHY AGE UK PLYMOUTH?
“When I retired I thought that I would become a volunteer Befriender but I stopped in via the day centre and that’s where I really enjoyed being. I've loved every minute, even though I'm older than some of the clients!!!”

WHAT DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT AGE UK PLYMOUTH?
“Volunteering at Age UK Plymouth brings me so much pleasure and joy. The team in the Day Centre are the best they’ve ever been. They support each other, are very caring and thank me for everything I do. Volunteering in the day centre makes me feel valued even though I'm not as energetic any more (but I've still got it!) I love my tea and coffee trolley, interacting with the clients and having company for myself too.”
