Join us for the latest Step Out for Age UK Plymouth challenge. 50 Miles in May is a month long challenge where you can walk, run, jog, hop, crawl, wheel or skip your way to 50 miles.

  • Between 1st and 31st May 2024
  • Go solo or walk with friends and family
  • Join us at the Central Park Park Run on Saturday 18th May - we'll be there to cheer you on as you top up your miles!
  • Raise a minimum of £50 to support over 50s
  • No entry fee and no minimum age

Set your own challenge level as you complete your 50 miles in your own way and at your own pace. Maybe you'll walk the dog 1.6 miles every day, finish a 12.5 mile walk each weekend in May, or something in the middle!

Can you raise £50 to help us be there for over 50s?

Every penny raised stays in the city of Plymouth supporting over 50s, those living with dementia and their carers.

Can anyone enter?

Registration is open to anyone. All those who wish to take part must register individually online or contact us on 01752 256020 for an offline registration form.

How do the tickets work?

There are two "tickets" available, we understand that people may want to challenge themselves and take part but aren't sure about fundraising. When you complete your registration you will have to choose one of the two following options.

Are there any organised events in the month?

We will be at the Central Park Park Run on Saturday 18th May, come along and top up your miles and we will be there to cheer you on!

Park Run is a non-competitive 5k event that anyone can join, find out more here.

Make sure you sign up to the Park Run in advance here

Do I need to train?

Well, that's up to you! Maybe you're already taking the dog out every day, or perhaps you could leave the car behind and walk the school run or walk to work twice a week?

Depending on your current activity levels 50 miles might be easy to achieve, you might want to tackle it in a few long walks, maybe along the coast path?

However you tackle your 50, make sure that you are thinking about your own abilities, warming up properly and looking after yourself!

Always let someone know your approximate route if you're walking solo or taking on a longer or more challenging walk!

How do I pay in my fundraising?

  1. You can set up a Localgiving account by clicking here – this way people can donate directly to your page and the funds automatically go to the charity.
  2. You can download a sponsorship form from the website and drop this with any money you have raised into our HQ at Astor Drive, Mount Gould Road, PL4 9RD (Mon-Fri, 9-4pm) or to our Dementia Day Centre, 8 Memory Lane, Plymstock, PL9 9GH (Mon-Fri, 9-4pm).
  • Cheques can be made payable to AGE UK PLYMOUTH and sent to us at Age UK Plymouth, Astor Drive, Mount Gould Road, PL4 9RD
  • We can provide details to complete a BACS transfer upon request.
  • We kindly ask for all money raised to be paid into the charity by 30th June 2024.

When will I receive my walking top?

We aim to get this to you approx. 1 week before the event so that you can wear it when you're walking. Please ensure your personal details are kept up-to-date. Medals and certificates will be issued in June.

I'm nervous about raising enough money!

  • First thing's first - don't panic! There is plenty of time.
  • Share your walks on social media or keep your friends and family posted, your commitment and dedication will inspire people to donate.
  • If you're taking on the challenge with a group of friends or with the family, pool your resources, set up a group fundraiser.
  • Why not give people something in return for your donation... maybe you could walk your neighbors dog for a £5 donation, and top up those miles too!
  • Check out our top tips for fundraising at the bottom of this page for more ideas.

Do I have to prove how far I've walked?

Not at all, if you want to add your miles to our group you can sign up to our Strava group here

We won't be asking you to show us how far you've walked, but it's great for your donors to keep sharing your progress, maybe on social media or in a group chat.
