Our Volunteers are precious to us

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and support the work we do in the community. We offer a range of services to support older people to live independent, enjoyable, and fulfilling lives - and the skills, time, and energy of our volunteers is vital in helping us do this!

Q&A

Who can volunteer

We offer a wide range of roles for anyone over 18 with various skills. If you and your company are looking to participate in a volunteering scheme, we provide employee volunteering opportunities.

Some roles will need DBS checking, so you will have to be prepared for us to do this on your behalf.

DBS stands for Disclosure and Barring Service, which is a government agency that conducts criminal record checksA DBS check is a process to find out whether someone has a criminal record, and it is required by some local authorities and organisations when someone will be working in their homes or with vulnerable people.

How much time do I need to give?

It depends on the volunteer role you are interested in. We are currently looking for people who can dedicate a few hours during the day Monday to Friday. However we do have volunteers who work in our Age UK shops on a Saturday.

If you can’t commit to volunteering on a regular basis maybe you could support us occasionally by helping out at one of our fundraisers or events. This could include something like shaking a collection tin.

Or perhaps you could organise a one-off fundraiser of your own, something you’d really enjoy doing.

What will I get out of it?

  • Learn new skills
  • Experience to add to your CV
  • Increased confidence
  • Relevant training courses provided
  • Regular supervision and support
  • Meet new people
  • Supporting older clients
  • Making a difference within your community
  • Being part of a vibrant volunteering team
  • Travel and other expenses reimbursed

"I started in Information and Advice at the old Uxbridge Office and quickly got involved with Welfare Benefits which I found so rewarding, helping people get the money they needed to maintain a decent life in older age."

A good thing about volunteering is that you can get involved in other areas, you also meet other volunteers who may become good friends."
