Big Knit

It's that time of year when bobbles and stripes and plain and fancy and patterned come to our attention again - and no I'm not talking about the Office 'Christmas Jumper' party!
It's the Innocent BIG KNIT national project that we take part in every year.
Each little hat that you donate to us gets us 25p from the good people at Innocent smoothies. The patterns range from the super simple (make a rectangle and sew it up) to the much more complex cupcakes, sharks and unicorns.
Although the project is called 'the Big Knit' it's actually for anyone who crafts - knitters, crocheters, french loomers... and we have a whole heap of interesting and more challenging patterns for those who have cracked the basics and want to try something a little harder (letterbox anyone?)
We are looking to gather together just under 8,500 little hats (and any more than that we still get our 25p per hat!) by the middle of July next year. These hats will then appear across the country on top of innocent smoothie bottles from November - just think, something you have made could be bought by someone in Scotland or Cornwall!
Everyone is welcome to take part - craft groups, primary schools, individuals, teams.... and you can drop into our Greenwich or Bromley office to pick up copies of patterns, get help and advice and drop off your finished hats!
These little hats are fast to make (a beginner knitter like me can make one in about 15-20 minutes), they are light to carry as a 'waiting queue' project (I made two recently sat waiting for a hospital appointment - it's better than staring at the wall!) and they use up tiny amounts of yarn - so a ball will make lots (and lots!) of little hats.
You can read more about the project and find copies of patterns and our poster (if you would like to advertise at your office, cafe, club or school) on our full details page linked below.
We will be featuring hats on our social media regularly and we can't wait to see yours!
