It’s Dementia Friendly Month in Sheffield this September and we’re highlighting the community help and support that’s available in the city for people living with dementia and their families. There are an estimated 7,000 people aged over 65 living with dementia in Sheffield, as well as smaller numbers of people with early onset dementia.

All the information, resources, activities and news and events taking place as part of Sheffield Dementia Friendly Month 2022 will be shared on this page. What support is available after diagnosis to help people live well?

 It can be daunting at first when you or a loved one is given a dementia diagnosis. There is so much support out there and it can be difficult to know where to start.

 To know the signs of dementia, we have to first know what dementia is

Enrichment for Elderly, a not-for-profit which helps people to understand dementia and how best to support people, published a blog that ask the important question, do I have dementia?

If you are concerned that you may be living with dementia but you haven't had a diagnosis, you can contact your local GP or contact our Dementia Advice Sheffield service to discuss any non-medical questions you may have.

What do you do to support dementia carers?

At Age UK Sheffield, we offer multiple different services designed to support older people in Sheffield. If you are a carer, and want information or advice on your circumstances, please get in touch.

Sheffield Carers Centre is the major independent charity offering support to Sheffield carers.  It does this by providing high quality information, advice, advocacy and support.  It seeks to reach out to all carers and to ensure that their needs are met.  You can find out more about caring for someone living with dementia here.
