Help connect your community with the support they need to navigate cancer services as a Plymouth Community Cancer Champion!

Cancer affects thousands of people across Plymouth, but not everyone knows where to turn for hewlp. As a Plymouth Community Cancer Champion, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring that cancer support is easy to access, delivered in a familiar and comforting setting, and tailored to the needs of the people in your community.

In collaboration with Macmillan, Zebra Collective and The Worseley Trust, the Plymouth Cancer Champions project is driven by the mission of raising awareness, offering support and supporting our local Plymouth community through making connections and education.

Your role as a Plymouth Community Cancer Champion will involve:

  • Promoting cancer support services within your community group or organisation.
  • Helping to create a welcoming environment for people affected by cancer, where they feel comfortable seeking support.
  • Listening to the needs of the community and helping Age UK Plymouth adapt our services to make them as accessible and beneficial as possible.
  • Becoming a point of contact for those seeking help and guidance, ensuring they are able to access the support resources when they need them most.

We’re bringing people together through partnerships, outreach, and programs like cancer cafés. Our goal is simple: to create a supportive, hopeful community in Plymouth where no one faces cancer alone.

By becoming a Cancer Champion, you will:

  • Make a real difference in people’s lives by bringing vital cancer support into their local, trusted spaces.
  • Be part of a supportive network of Cancer Champions across Plymouth, working together to make cancer support accessible for everyone.
  • Receive full support and training from Age UK Plymouth to help you carry out your role effectively, ensuring you feel confident and well-prepared to support your community.
