Warm Homes Initiative Provided Comfort and Financial Security This Winter

Warm Homes is a programme that Age UK has been delivering for 13 years, starting in 2011, to provide help and support to older people to ensure their homes are kept warm and safe during the coldest months of the year.
The National Picture, Winter 2023/24
- £1,797,208 was awarded to 53 partners delivering benefit checks and £355,796 to 34 partners delivering home energy checks.
- 13,919 older people were supported with 26,824 benefit sessions, resulting in £59,086,831.36 in benefits identified. This is an average of £4,245.05 per person.
- 3,668 households were supported with home energy checks, resulting in 5,150 older people benefitting from bespoke energy-related information and tips, and energy efficiency equipment such as draught excluders, lightbulbs and radiator foils.
- The suppot given through the home energy checks is expected to result in fuel bill savings of £85,180.48 for all households. Some households were also referred to receive benefit check support, which is expected to result in them claiming £53,455.28 in benefits. Therefore, the total financial outcome is approx. £938,635.76 (an average of £255.90 per household).

Overseen by our Information & Advice team, we are pleased to share our own data from the Warm Homes initiative, carried out locally in Plymouth.
These figures demonstrate the significant benefit and clear impact of the service on the lives of older people in our community. This year, the most popular home installation was lightbulbs, with 198 installed, followed by night lights with 47 installed.
Reflecting on the success of the Warm Homes initiative it is clear that the programme has made a profound difference in the lives of older people, helping them stay warm, safe and financially secure.
