Sky High for Age UK Plymouth

Our incredibly brave supporter and fundraiser, Sophie, has taken the ultimate leap of faith last week completing a tandem skydive to raise funds for Age UK Plymouth, teaming up with the Cornish Parachute Club, which is the only skydive centre in the UK to boast the beach as a drop zone! As she soared through the skies, this daring jump saw Sophie drop from over 10,000ft overlooking the beautiful views of the Cornish coast line before hurtling towards the Atlantic at 120mph.
Sporting her bright pink Age UK Plymouth t-shirt, this courageous fundraising activity in aid of our charity not only increases awareness but helps raise vital donations so we can continue our meaningful work supporting over 50’s in the City of Plymouth.
Why a skydive?
“Why not? It’s for a great cause and I’ve always wanted to do one! So, when the opportunity arose I just couldn’t turn it down.”
Why Age UK Plymouth?
“When I first heard that Age UK Plymouth were doing a charity skydive I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. With all of the fantastic support they provide the elderly in the community, I wanted to give something back to show my appreciation to their amazing team.”
We are so over the moon to have such wonderfully committed fundraisers like Sophie who are so willing to go that extra mile, or in Sophie’s case 10,000ft, to make a difference in the lives of older people we support in Plymouth. Sophie’s skydive was actually originally scheduled for last September, but due to weather concerns, it had to be postponed until the 2024 season. We are incredibly grateful that Sophie remained determined and eagerly waited for the opportunity to still go ahead with the jump when the next opportunity came about.
Sophie’s thrilling jump has been absolutely inspiring. We are honoured to have been selected as her chosen charity to receive her fundraising efforts so we can continue to provide and expand our services in Plymouth to those who need it most.
