Sharing The Festive Spirit... One Card At A Time
Published on 22 November 2024 02:12 PM
This Christmas, we are delighted to be partnering with Drake Circus with their 'Merry Mailbox' initiative, designed to bring some festive joy to older members of our Plymouth community.
So, what's the campaign all about? Visitors at Drake Circus will be able to pick up a Christmas card, designed by the incredibly talented, award winning illustrator Zara McDermott. Zara has created two bespoke designs that are guaranteed to put a smile on someones face this Christmas.
Recently, we launched our own Christmas Campaign 'It Won't Be Lonely This Christmas', which is all about making sure that no one in Plymouth spends the festive season alone. This Christmas, we will be delivering hot, festive meals directly to older people across Plymouth who are facing the season by themselves. In addition to the meal deliveries, we will also be hosting a special Christmas party at our Mount Gould Centre, where older people can come together for an afternoon of celebration, delicious food and companionship.
Christmas is a time of love, warmth and celebration, but for many, it is a time of loneliness and isolation. With rising winter costs and Plymouth being one of the most deprived areas in the country, this time of year can be particularly hard for those already struggling. That is why we are so pleased about this meaningful partnership, as it perfectly aligns with our mission. Sharing festive cards, and reminding people they are not alone.

"It's such a joy to be part of this project with Age UK Plymouth and Drake Circus. I hope my cheerful chunky Santa or smiley mistletoe can spread some love this Christmas."
Greg Lumley, centre director at Drake Circus and The Barcode, said: “While Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for many of us, sadly for some in our community it can feel isolating.
“It’s our visitors who make Christmas so special for us here at Drake Circus, so we know we can count on them to spread some festive cheers for those who need it most.
“We hope our ‘Merry Mailbox’ will help to bring a few more smiles over the seasonal period and make sure no one feels alone.”
Once you have left warm wishes and posted your card, they can be posted into the special post box located in the Atrium outside of Pandora - from now until 10th December 2024. Each card will then be distributed by us, either along with a Christmas meal or as a nice surprise for an older person attending our Christmas Party.
We'd love to encourage all to get involved as the small but thoughful gesture of a card can go a long way in brightening someone's day this Christmas.
