Housing Advice Drop in Clinics Offer Vital Support & Advice to Older People in Plymouth
Published on 25 July 2024 08:52 AM
Our Housing Advice Drop in Clinics occur on the second Tuesday of each month at The William and Patricia Venton Centre.
It has only been a couple of months since we first launched our Housing Advice Drop in Clinic at The William and Patricia Venton Centre, and it has already made a significant impact.
Every second Tuesday of the month, clients and members of the community have the opportunity to speak directly with a Plymouth City Council Housing team member, addressing their housing concerns and to seek advice for what lies ahead. These drop in clinics offer expert guidance on housing options, support with eviction notices, assistance with rent arrears or unaffordable rent, and solutions for property disrepair.
Plymouth City Council Community Connections Officer, Vanessa, who has been hosting the sessions, took the time to share her experience and what it means to work with Age UK Plymouth, assisting those who need it most as they navigate through their housing journey.
"Some of the clients I worked with did not know where to begin. It was so important to let them know that there are different options available, I could see how much weight this took off a few people's shoulders. Our advisors at the drop in clinics take the time to understand your personal situation in full and do the best to provide you with all the support you need to take the next steps. If you are struggling and you are not sure where to turn, please consider attending one of these sessions so we can help you have a better peace of mind for the future."
Vanessa, Plymouth City Council.
The current national housing crisis has left many individuals struggling to find stable, affordable housing, leaving older people particularly vulnerable. In Plymouth alone, the situation is especially serious, as rents continue to rise at an alarming rate, leaving a record number of people in temporary housing. Whether it's also struggling with a limited income, illness or disability, all of these significant challenges have a knock on effect with navigating the growing housing emergency.
At a time where providing these Housing Advice Drop in Clinics is crucial, offering not only practical advice but also understanding and a sense of reassurance. As these sessions continue, we hope to support more older people in Plymouth, ensuring they have the guidance to secure and maintain safe, suitable and affordable housing.
If you are currently concerned about your housing situation and would like to discuss your options with a Plymouth City Council Housing Officer, please be sure to attend one of our Housing Advice Drop in Clinics so they can help you take the next steps.
