Age UK Plymouth is starting the year with fresh energy and leadership, welcoming its new Chief Executive Officer, Richard Baker. With over a decade of experience working with charities across various sectors, including his most recent role supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence, Richard is passionate about delivering vital services to those who need them most.
For over 80 years, Age UK Plymouth has been dedicated to improving the lives of older people across the city. Whether it’s tackling loneliness and isolation, offering practical support through day centres, providing essential dementia care, or running social activities, the charity is committed to helping older people live independently, stay connected with their local community, and get the most out of later life.
Richard took the time to reflect on his introductory weeks at Age UK Plymouth:
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join this inspiring organisation at such an exciting time for the charity. Already in my first weeks, I have seen first hand the importance and value of the support being provided across the city by Age UK Plymouth. I look forward to leading the charity, and our unbelievably dedicated team of colleagues as we continue our work to improve the lives of older people in Plymouth.”
Age UK Plymouth's Chair of Trustees, Marjorie Creek, added:
“Richard joined the Charity as our new Chief Executive Officer at the start of the year. After a highly competitive recruitment campaign, he was our stand out candidate to lead the charity in this role and we are extremely pleased that he accepted the position. His refreshing, engaging management style is popular with the Board, staff and volunteers. Age UK Plymouth welcomes his business acumen, charitable expertise and considered leadership.”
With Richard now leading the charity, Age UK Plymouth is looking ahead to an exciting 2025. The charity is constantly striving to support more people and hopes to expand its reach and impact this year, ensuring that even more individuals can benefit from its services and access the help they need.
