Moorfields Eye Health & Sight Webinar (Zoom)

Tuesday 21 May, 4-5pm

With Mr Kamran Saha, Moorfields Consultant Opthalmic Surgeon

Age UK Islington and Islington Carers Hub have come together with Moorfields Eye Hospital to host a webinar. Join us for a relaxed session when you can find out about the benefits of regular eye checks. These are essential to pick up any signs of eye disease early. Kamran will also talk about why eye checks are important for someone in the early stages with dementia.

There will be lots of time for Questions and Answers, so come with your questions!

Future Matters in-person events

Following a dementia diagnosis, it's essential to make sure that there are plans in place that will enable a loved one caring for an individual to step into manage their health and financial affairs should the need arise. Things as simple as paying bills can otherwise be very difficult.

The Future Matters team are hosting a number of free bookable information sessions in May at different Islington community venues. You can get free follow-up appointments too to help with Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Advance Care Plans.

Singing for the brain sessions are designed to promote wellbeing and build confidence in people living with memory problems.  More information & dates

Islington Ecology Centre 

Islington Ecology Centre, 191 Drayton Park, N5 1PH

We are 3 minutes from Arsenal tube and there is one Blue Badge parking space. Islington Ecology Centre is the blue wooden building just inside the park. The centre is fully wheelchair accessible.

Park Cuppa - third Tuesday of the month 10.30am - 12pm

Cup of tea and a chat with local people, hosted by Age UK Islington
volunteers. Bring a friend or come on your own! Free and open to everyone. No need to book - just turn up!

Health & Nature Walk - first Friday of the month 10 - 11am 

A slow walk around the park, discovering what's changed in nature. Tea and biscuits to follow. No need to book. Dementia-friendly.

Guided Sensory Walk: Wednesday 15 May 2.30 – 3.30pm

A guided sensory walk for those living with Dementia and their carers taking place in Gillespie Park. The walk will focus on some of the sensory aspects of the nature reserve including smells, touch and the sounds of birds singing. The walk is slow and flat and can be done in a wheelchair. The ground may be a little muddy if it’s been raining recently but we will avoid any very muddy areas Following the walk, free hot drinks will be provided. Meet at Islington Ecology Centre for the start of the walk. No need to book.

Carers Week: a Mindful Walk for Carers Wednesday 12 June 2.30-3.30pm

Take some time for yourself and immerse yourself in Islington’s largest nature reserve: Gillespie Park. You’ll be guided around the park and encouraged to chat to other carers, listen to the birds and spot the wildflowers. It’s a chance to breath some fresh air and replenish yourself. The walk is slow and will take around 45 minutes. Free hot drinks will be provided after the walk. Meet at Islington Ecology Centre. No need to book.

Arts 4 Dementia Activities

Michelangelo visual art programme at the British Museum
Monday 3 June - 24th June (4 weeks)

Join this FREE 4-week programme for people with early-stage dementia or mild cognitive impairment and their companions. This is a chance for participants to discover Michelangelo's drawings, sculptures, letters and poems, created in his later years at the British Museums latest exhibition.

Art Wednesday
Every Wednesday, 2pm -3pm on Zoom

Art Wednesday is a brilliant opportunity for people with memory challenges and their companions to socialise, engage creatively, learn new art techniques, discover fascinating art and heritage collections and improve their brain health in a friendly online video workshop via Zoom.

Park Theatre Weekly Creative Sessions

13 Clifton Terrace, Finsbury Park, N4 3JP

Feel supported, relaxed, and uplifted in the Park Theatre's free weekly drama-based session for those living with dementia and their carers.  Or try the weekly singing group. Both have social time with tea & coffee, and are a great chance to relax, chat and make friends.
