Volunteer role outline

To support and provide companionship to older people with dementia.

Estimated hours: between 9am - 5pm. Can consist of a morning, afternoon or early evening sessions on average of once or twice a week.

Sample Activities:

Spending time with clients talking and listening to them.

Escorting them to and from their transport

Participating with Day Centre Activities

Helping in the kitchen, for example preparing vegetables, washing up, preparing tea and coffee trays ready to serve.

Working with staff to ensure service users are supervised at all time

Working in the office to provide support for the administrator.

Qualifications sought:

All volunteers will receive training at The Parker Centre. Volunteers must be friendly and approachable, empathetic to the needs of older people with dementia and their carers and be flexible. For office duties, a basic knowledge of office administration systems is desirable.

Day Centre Kitchen Assistant

To Assist the cook to help prepare meals for our clients at The Parker Centre.

Estimated hours: 10am - 2pm once or twice a week.

Sample of Activities:

Help in the kitchen, for example, preparing vegetables, washing up, preparing tea and coffee trays ready to serve.

To assist in washing up using the dishwasher

To assist in serving meals to clients.

The duties of the volunteers may vary and will take into account the needs of the service users, volunteers and the project.
