Rachel kindly chose to run for Age UK York in 2023 as we first took part in the Yorkshire Marathon. She came back for more in 2024.

Here is her story and why she is kindly running in support of Age UK York.

Would you like to join her?

"The work that Age UK York does is absolutely invaluable to our elderly community"

18 months ago, I wasn’t a runner at all. Then I joined a few friends in starting an informal running group and we wanted to improve (plus I had the added incentive of exercising as much as possible to look good for my wedding!). Fast forward and I run 20-25k each week and have done various races in and around York. Including the 10 Mile event of the Yorkshire Marathon!

The races are great, they give me something to aim for, and even if I’m feeling unprepared on the day, the atmosphere is always great and carries you through to the end! Plus it’s always a great excuse to raise money for Age UK York!

The work that Age UK York does is absolutely invaluable to our elderly community.

I hate the thought of some people having no human contact, especially when the elderly community so often need to bounce ideas off someone or talk things through.

Please do consider joining me, and others, in walking, jogging or running in this year’s Yorkshire Marathon or 10 Mile events.

Thank you
