Our stories and feedback
We would like to applaud all our staff and volunteers for always making a difference, as well as our donors and funders for enabling us to continue doing what we do. We thought we’d share some stories with you to show how everyone supporting Age UK York is allowing us to keep helping now and beyond into the next 50 years:
Thanks from City of York Council to Bridge The Gap
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and your team for all your continued hard work and dedication to the customers you serve in York. The Bridge The Gap service goes above and beyond and cares so much about people that you even relish a challenge that others turn down! You and your staffing team have a remarkable tolerance and empathy for people that enables you to work with them in a way that can remove barriers in your quest to improve outcomes
"Angels do exist and they are on earth right now"
Dear Age UK York
My name is *********, I live with my family away from York and would like to let your team know how the work you all do is appreciated and worthwhile.
My story with you started back in March, when, my old aged in-laws who live in York had to join millions of others; in the national self-isolating due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Living so far apart from our beloved elderly, induced into our hearts a new kind of fear that was robbing us of our sleep and piece. Being able to contact you and receive a reassurance that you can help, it meant the world to us. I remember thinking "Angels do exist and they are on earth right now". You lifted up a huge stoan-heavy burden, by being able to share with you our worries. You have put us together with the Haxby Helpers and tirelessly kept the communication going backwards and forwards until help was assured for my in-laws.
A BIG THANK YOU, at uncertain times like this Age UK York and Haxby Helpers are our heroes. I cannot even begin to imagine how many people are involved in helping. But who ever you are, we're in deptened to you all, your work is deeply appreciated.
With most gratitude and truly yours
Feedback from the Alzheimers society
Many thanks for your email – it’s lovely to hear from you, and to catch up on all the things Age UK York is doing. I have heard about some of them during my weekly welfare calls to our service users, as quite a few of the people we support attend your Day Clubs. For example, two of the people in our Monday Singing for the Brain group also attend your Wednesday Day Club in Acomb, and they were both full of praise for the activity packs and personal letters which you have been sending them. It is great to hear that you will be running a virtual Day Club, as I know how much the clubs mean both to the clients and their carers.
Lovely words from a befriendee
'I just want to thank you all so much for all that you are doing. There is so much help and kindness on offer. It feels like the war days and everyone is pulling together'
Thanks from Family to Age UK York and Adult Social Services, City of York Council
“Just to say thank you so much for all your help, it's worked wonders. We had a meeting this morning at Dad's with two lovely people from Social Services and they have helped persuade him to have his central heating system/boiler renewed,
I chatted with him afterwards and he's promised to let us organise the work. My brother is going to take his tea tonight and talk with dad so fingers crossed the situation will be rectified in time for winter.,
We can't express our gratitude enough to you all - all the family thank you and all at Social Services for acting so promptly with effeciency and compassion
You all do such a, sometimes thankless, but amazing job and of course you can share his story - I still can't believe what an absolutely amazing job you all did in such a short space of time.
On behalf of all the family we are so extremely grateful and if you could pass our heartfelt and sincere thanks to every person connected with both organisations, we would be much obliged.”
