Tang Hall Closure

The Age UK York shop at Fourth Avenue closed its doors for the last time on 21st January 2022. The shop was the only one that sold furniture as well as equipment for people with disabilities. The shop was also the storage and sorting base for all five of the charity shops. A special partition has been put in at the Burton Stone Lane shop where storage and sorting can now be done. The Burton Stone Lane shop is now the place to take all your kind donations and arrange Gift Aid for them, too.
Julie and Pauline, the shop's managers, have always worked hard with the drivers to make the shop a busy and comfortable place. 16 pages in a compliments book were filled by customers wanting to show their appreciation. The shop was more than a service as the comments show. Customers asked for the shop to remain open. Sadly this wasn't possible as the building's owner wanted to carry out additional building work to result in flats. Comments showed how the shop was appreciated for its bargains, as a social place to meet a friendly face and noted the part it played in recycling as well as the value to Age UK York as a whole. People wrote that they were 'gutted' and 'heartbroken' and spoke of the shop as part of the local community. It was a 'sad day' when this 'brilliant', 'best shop ever' closed.
