About Isy
New College Worcester student, Isy is an exceptionally talented musician and has a love of all the arts. Isy started playing the piano when she was only 3 years old and singing when she was just 5 years old. She took to music immediately and since then has lived and breathed music. Isy was introduced to the organ at her church school at the age of 7 and has played it ever since. Isy often plays the organ at New College Worcester and has even composed a “Bells Concerto in D Magor” which was a huge hit at the Christmas concert. Currently, Isy is working towards her grade 8 in singing and piano as well as A level Music. Inspired by all music from Flanders and Swann to Julia Donaldson, Isy would love a career in children’s entertainment when she leaves New College Worcester.
About New College Worcester
New College Worcester is a national residential school and college for young people aged 11 to 19 who are blind or vision impaired. Every student at New College Worcester has a tailored programme, carefully planned and delivered to meet their individual needs in three key areas; academic achievement, independent living skills and involvement in extracurricular activities at the College and in the community. The opportunities provided to students in these three areas of provision play a crucial role in the development of confidence and self-esteem and preparation for life beyond our College. The Music Department at NCW provides a practical, hands-on curriculum that all students can benefit from, expanding their awareness and love of music. Performing, listening and composing are at the heart of the Music curriculum.
Within the Music Department, we offer a wide range of instrumental lessons delivered by specialist visiting teachers: woodwind, brass, singing, musical theatre, piano, percussion, guitar and organ. The instrumental lessons are all on an individual basis and are personalised to meet the needs of the student. Entering ABRSM or other external music exams with a 100% success rate from Grade 1 to Grade 8 and beyond to Diploma, and over 75% at Distinction level. Extra-curricular activities are offered that encourage ensemble skills and a strong social aspect to music making. Not all of our groups require the student to be studying an instrument.
