Brand new project launched across Malvern Hills.
This service is only available across the Malvern Hills District.
The Being Well project has been launched to support older people across Malvern Hills to take control of their mental health and wellbeing through engagement with local support networks, community groups, activities, and services.
Mental health challenges are not an inevitable part of ageing. Together, we can help everyone to live well, age well, and live a healthier, happier and more independent later life.
The importance of mental wellbeing
As we get older, changes in our lives such as retirement, bereavement, illness or disability, caring responsibilities, financial worry, and loneliness can have a serious impact on our mental wellbeing. It is estimated that in the UK today more than 1 in 4 older people live with a common mental health condition such as anxiety or depression.
Poor mental health impacts individuals and their families financially and socially, and leads to a lower overall quality of life and a shorter healthy life span. Getting help early, connecting with others and learning strategies to manage anxiety and low mood can make a big difference to the wellbeing of the individual, their families and the wider community.
What can we do?
We can:
- Be a supportive listening ear to help you identify the issues affecting your mental wellbeing, and work with you to find. way forward
- Link you with support in your community, within Age UK and through other local community and voluntary organisations
- Link you with a volunteer buddy to make it easier to access groups and activities
