A Journey from Volunteer to Work Achievement

Published on 12 September 2018 12:58 PM

Angela and JanisAngela is our latest volunteer at Age UK Wirral to move into the world of paid work in her new post. We are proud to celebrate with Angela and will continue to encourage and support our volunteers in their development whether it’s into paid work , self-improvement, meaningful activity or filling in time.  All making a big difference to our vulnerable and lonely clients.

She joined our digital inclusion course to upgrade her computer skills, decided to volunteer and then went on to join our busy admin office to gain experience in an administrative working environment. She helps with organising support for our clients and keeping our records in tip top order.

Volunteering with Age UK Wirral fitted in with my needs. I am always learning something new and I love being with all the nice staff who can really see what I am about. It gave me a focus and structure to my day instead of being stuck at home, feeling anxious over job searches and getting into a downward spiral of anxiety .I knew I wanted to do something meaningful and I know how much it means to the clients to get some company and a helping hand. It is very meaningful and rewarding.

I have gained confidence and met some great people. I sharpened up my mind and skills and feel a real connection with the work and people. This experience has helped me get ready to apply for quality jobs and I am thrilled to be taken on by another respected organisation. I am combining my work and continue to volunteer for Age UK Wirral. They are an expanding service, they need drivers, shoppers, befrienders and there are lots of flexible roles to suit all volunteers.

I would encourage anyone who has some time to spare to come to Age UK Wirral. There is a lot of training and support on offer and they really value their volunteers. It could change your life.”
