Whip up some Jingle Bakes to support vulnerable and lonely older people this Winter

Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove is asking local people to get involved in a ‘Jingle Bakes’ event this December, to help support over 65s through the cost of living crisis this Winter. Jingle bakes can be cakes, mince pies or gingerbread sold at a coffee morning, afternoon tea or bake sale, the proceeds of which will fund the charity’s vital work, supporting some of the most vulnerable older people during the coming months.
Family, friends, neighbours or work colleagues can all get involved in either hosting or attending an event. We’re asking local businesses to consider having a ‘jingle bake break’ in the run up to Christmas, where each person brings in some sweet treats to share and makes a small donation in return for a festive break in the usual work day. Not only is it a nice treat for employees, but the money raised will help Age UK WSBH support some of those most in need locally.
Simon Dowe, Interim Director of Income Generation at Age UK WSBH said “We know the cost of living is hitting everyone hard, but Jingle Bakes is an easy way to make a difference this Christmas. It could provide an inexpensive festive get together at work, or with friends and family. Churches or community groups might want to hold a Jingle Bakes event for older people who are facing a lonely Christmas this year, charging only what people can afford. Please get involved, spread a bit of joy and help us be there for those who need us the most this winter.”
Age UK WSBH is supporting older people through the cost of living crisis in a number of ways, providing personalised information and advice from specialist advisors. The charity can help people in financial hardship access benefits, food banks and grants and can offer tips on staying warm when the temperature drops. Age UK WSBH also has community agents, who tackle isolation by working with lonely older people, getting them connected to groups and activities nearby.
