‘Strictly Vintage’ dancers to support older people in Horsham District
The team at local, independent charity Age UK Horsham District are delighted to announce that their successful 1940’s/50’s style Tea Dance ‘Strictly Vintage’ will be returning to The Drill Hall in Horsham on the afternoon of Saturday 21st March 2020.
Over the last six years the event, which attracts guests of all ages and dancing abilities, has continued to grow and become a firm fixture on the dancing calendar. As in previous years, the very popular Royal British Legion ‘Legionnaires’ Dance Band will be providing live 1940’s and 1950’s music and a delicious afternoon tea will be served on vintage china. There will also be a raffle and prizes for the ‘Best Dressed’ attendees.
Simon Dowe, Interim CEO for Age UK Horsham District said: “The guests love the vintage feel of the event and many even come dressed in traditional 40’s and 50’s style. These fabulous events raise around £2,000 to help support our work with older people across the Horsham District and we are really hoping that this year we can raise even more!”
The event is being organised by Age UK Horsham District’s team of staff and volunteers, and this year has a new sponsor, Freeman Brothers Funeral Directors.
Simon added: “This year Freeman Brothers are celebrating 165 years in business and, the company has set a target of undertaking 165 charitable activities throughout the year. Their support of our Strictly Vintage events in 2020 is a wonderful way to help the community and we are looking forward to working in partnership with them.”
Tickets are just £13 per person and you can buy them by calling the Age UK Horsham District Fundraising team on 01403 260560. Alternatively, pop in to Age UK Horsham District’s Lavinia House premises, in Dukes Square, Horsham – just behind the Drill Hall – to book.
The money raised from the event will go towards funding the free services Age UK Horsham District provides to older people in the local area. These services help to reduce loneliness, improve access to services and financial support, and give older people the opportunity to love later life.
One of the vital services that this event will support is the charity’s Information and Advice service, a one-stop-shop that provides help with understanding allowances and benefits, help with completing claim forms and providing guidance and support. In 2018/2019, this vital service alone helped over 1,000 people in the Horsham District to claim over £815,000 (annualised) in benefits they were entitled to and were living without.
This service can mean the difference between someone being able to access enough money to eat well and heat their home; or live in poverty and potentially lose their home and their independence.
If you would like to show your support, Age UK Horsham District would welcome raffle prizes and donations for their future events and charitable services. Please do get in touch to discuss.
