New senior leadership team at local Age UK to guide charity through unprecedented threat posed by Coronavirus

A new senior leadership team has been put in place at Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove (WSBH) to help the charity deliver the best possible services for older people and to navigate the challenges and financial threats posed by Coronavirus.

Chief Executive, Helen Rice has recruited a new Chief Operating Officer, Sarah Watson, alongside Commercial Director, David Newton and Director of Localities and Partnerships, Jo Clarke. The team is completed by Head of Health, Susan Brigstock-Parker, Head of People, Parul Chatterjee and Head of Relationship Management, Claire Long.

Following the Coronavirus pandemic, the charity is experiencing huge challenges, including losses of £50,000 each month following the closure of its centres. There is also increased demand, due to the number of older people shielding or in self isolation. Age UK WSBH has transformed its services, handling thousands of referrals to help vulnerable older people locally.

Helen Rice, Chief Executive at Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove said “Our five year strategy prompted us to begin recruitment but Coronavirus means the new team’s skills and expertise are needed more than ever. Our income has taken a huge hit and uncertainty faces the whole charity sector, but demand for our help is the highest it’s been. I’m confident that we’ve got fantastic leadership in place to guide us through these uncertain times. The new leadership, together with our professional, dedicated staff and volunteers will help us deliver the best possible services locally. Older people are at the heart of everything we do and we’re determined to be there for those who need us in the months and years ahead.”

Age UK West Sussex, Brighton and Hove quickly adapted the way it works in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. The charity is offering information and advice, doorstep deliveries, emergency welfare and safety support for the most vulnerable, telephone befriending and wellbeing advice.
