Make a Will Scheme 2020

Published on 26 May 2020 11:22 AM

Age UK Horsham District has joined forces with the Horsham based solicitors Kreston Reeves for a third time to run free advice workshops and a ‘Make a Will’ scheme to raise money for our vital work with older people.

The workshops, which took place in Horsham and Steyning, were once again very popular, with over 25 local older people benefitting from the opportunity to talk to a solicitor free of charge in an informal setting about making or amending their Will or Lasting Power of Attorney.

Following this, Kreston Reeves solicitors kindly gave their time pro bono and in return for a donation to Age UK Horsham District for up to 15 local people/couples to write or amend their Wills and Lasting Power of Attorneys.

Donations from those who took part in the Scheme totalled almost £3,000 which will go towards funding the free services Age UK Horsham District offers that support older people in the local area.  These services aim to reduce loneliness and social isolation and improve access to services and financial support to help older people to live well in later life.

Simon Dowe, CEO of Age UK Horsham District said “We are so grateful to Philip Lansberry and his team at Kreston Reeves for supporting this scheme to happen.  By providing their services for free, they offered invaluable advice to the local community and helped us to raise essential funds so we can keep supporting older people in Horsham District.  Charities are suffering enormously due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, so this funding is even more vital in enabling us to provide support to those who need it right now.”

Age UK Horsham District has quickly adapted the way it works in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. As well as information and advice, the charity is also offering doorstep deliveries, emergency welfare and safety support for the most vulnerable, telephone befriending and well-being advice.
