Asda in Ferring gives £1000 boost to local dementia service

Asda in Ferring today donated £1000 to support the Daybreak Dementia service run by Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove. Asda customers voted to support the service through the ‘green token scheme’, which supports different charities each month.

The Daybreak service helps people live well with dementia, enabling them to maintain their skills and independence in a friendly environment, while allowing their carers some respite. The donation will be put towards additional activity equipment for the local service in Arun, enabling people with dementia to try things like skittles and curling. Those attending the service will also get to put forward ideas on how the money should be spent.

Charlie Rayner, Daybreak Services Manager said “We are so grateful to Asda Ferring and its customers for giving the Daybreak service such a generous donation, which will go directly towards improving the lives of those living with dementia. Day to day life for people with dementia can be tough and socialising can be a daunting prospect. The Daybreak service brings people together in a friendly and relaxed environment and also offers their carers a break. Community support for what we do here is invaluable and this money will make a real difference to our service and the people who use it.”

Asda Community Champion, Mick Kelly handed over the cheque to Charlie Rayner at the Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove head office in Littlehampton today.

Age UK West Sussex and Age UK Brighton & Hove merged in July 2019. Last year the charities helped over 15,000 older people, tackling a range of issues like poverty, social care and loneliness as well as helping people make the most of later life.
