Age UK Westminster is working with Westminster council to deliver a Winter fuel fund

This November, older residents in Westminster should expect a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) confirming if they remain eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment. If you are eligible, this payment should arrive as usual to help with heating costs this winter.

For around 2,000 households receiving housing benefit or council tax support who are no longer eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment, support will still be provided by Westminster City Council in the form of supermarket vouchers worth either £200 or £300, depending on individual circumstances. These vouchers will be sent directly to eligible households in November or December 2024.

In addition, a Winter Fuel Payment Fund has been set up for other older Westminster residents who may face financial challenges due to the loss of the Winter Fuel Payment. Age UK Westminster can assist with applications to this fund, providing help in completing a short form and checking eligibility for any additional benefits. Supermarket vouchers of £200 or £300 will be issued to successful applicants.

 The fund will be open from 13 November 2024 until February 2025, though it may close temporarily if demand is high. Updates will be provided on this page if the fund pauses.

Eligibility Requirements:

To apply for the Winter Fuel Payment Fund, applicants must meet the following criteria:

- Born before 23 September 1958 and no longer eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment

- Likely to struggle financially this winter due to the loss of the Winter Fuel Payment

- Be a Westminster resident or placed by Westminster City Council in temporary accommodation outside the borough

- Not currently receiving housing benefit, council tax support, Pension Credit, or other benefits that would normally qualify for a Winter Fuel Payment
