FAQs
Below are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding our Volunteer Application Process:
Who can volunteer?
Almost anyone can be a volunteer. We have a wide range of roles which suit different people, skills and time commitments
You must be over 18, live or work in the London Borough of Wandsworth and be able to volunteer without children or pets. You must also be prepared to attend a face to face interview with the Project Coordinator during office hours, undergo a full DBS check and attend training where appropriate.
I already have a DBS. Do I need to go through another check?
We will need to carry out a new DBS check unless you are signed up to the DBS Update Service and have a certificate for an Enhanced Adults check.
What training will I get?
Volunteers need to complete an online Safeguarding training before they can start their role.
Will there be ongoing support once I have started my role?
All volunteers receive ongoing support from the coordinator for the project that they are volunteering for, and are encouraged to contact the coordinator with any worries, concerns or questions. Volunteers also receive invitations to our events, including our annual volunteer party, optional specialist training sessions and other social events.
I have submitted my application form and have not heard back
We send replies via email to everyone who has applied. If you haven't heard from us, it may be worth checking your Junk folder for our reply. Alternatively, you could resubmit your application making sure to avoid the following common errors:
- Incorrect email address (personal or referee/s)
- Referee/s provided are partners or family members
- Referee/s provided have not known you for longer than a year
- Incomplete or illegible application form
You could also contact your referees and remind them to send through their references if they haven't already done so.
Can I provide feedback about my volunteer role?
Some of our roles ask for short monthly feedback forms to monitor the progress of the clients. If you want to provide more general feedback, please contact your service coordinator.
