Veterans visit Worthing

The Veterans Service at Age UK Wandsworth is coming to a close, and we wanted to organise one more trip before we finish. The seaside always makes for a popular destination for this group, especially somewhere within easy travelling distance of London. We picked a cold but dry, sunny day in March, with transport provided by a reliable & accessible community association. On arrival, we first took a stroll on the pier to stretch our legs. The veterans like to be out and about but with an average age of over 80, the cold wind forced us back to the seafront, then into a café for refreshments. Lunch followed soon afterwards with fish and chips being a popular choice. We stretched our legs in the afternoon again, walking around the gardens and seafront. Some of the group commented that they’d been to Worthing before and enjoyed being back, others enjoyed a change of scene, the company and the food! These types of activities could not take place without the generosity of the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, and we are deeply indebted to them for allowing us to support veterans and bring them together in this way in Wandsworth.
