Butterfly Garden

This summer we had the opportunity to invite eight caterpillars into our Day Centre! We were able to see them go from caterpillars to chrysalides, before turning into beautiful butterflies.
The entire transformation took about 3 weeks. Our little caterpillars arrived in a cup along with all the food they needed grow. Over a week they ate, span silk and grew to ten times their original size! After this they hung upside down and turned into chrysalides. We then moved them into the bigger habitat and waited for them to emerge as butterflies!
After about ten more days we got to see them transform into butterflies! Once butterflies, the service users fed them fruit and watched them land on their arms! After enjoying having them at Day Centre, we released them in the garden and watched them fly into the wild.
This was a wonderful experience for our service users as they got to see the full life cycle of a butterfly, which is quite a miraculous one to watch! They also got to experience being up close and personal with the butterflies and admiring their lovely wings.
Overall, it brought a lot of happiness into the centre and they will be greatly missed!
