Veterans visit to Wisley

Thanks to generous funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Trust, Age UK Wandsworth is organising a series of activities for veterans and their families. Many veterans find it difficult to fully engage with their community, some can suffer from depression or addiction problems. During the times of Covid, life has been more difficult for everyone, and many older people have been reluctant to get out and about or have lost connections with friends.

We’re helping people to rebuild links and to be active, happy and healthy around the community again. We’re doing this via a series of activities. In September we arranged a trip to Wisley Gardens in Surrey for a group by minibus. Bryan Savage-Leao is the Veterans Together coordinator at Age UK Wandsworth. He said: “It was lovely to see a lively and enthusiastic group of people enjoying a fun day out together, admiring the gardens, learning about plants and enjoying each other’s company!” The visit was popular and we spent several hours admiring the huge variety of plants, tropical greenhouse, allotments, and everything else Wisley has to offer.

We are planning further events and activities around the borough and elsewhere, and home visits for those who are unable to go out easily. If you or a family member are a veteran and would like to be involved, please contact us to find out more: Tel 020 8877 8942 or email Bryan.Leao@ageukwandsworth.org.uk
