Shopping Volunteers deliver shopping to housebound older people in the borough.
How long have you been volunteering with Age UK Waltham Forest?
I started volunteering with Age UK back in October 2022.
What is your volunteer role and what does it involve?
As a Shopping Volunteer I am in charge of purchasing and delivering groceries to people in my neighbourhood. This allows them to keep having their favourite things from the safety of their home!
What do you like best about volunteering with us?
Volunteering requires commitment and in a week full of conflicting priorities it is sometimes difficult to do so. The Shopping Volunteer role ticked all the boxes, as I was able to incorporate the role into my routine (after all we all need to do groceries!) all while helping someone in need at the same time.
What has your favourite moment been volunteering with us?
The first time that the person who I support felt comfortable and opened up. Since then they became more engaged.
