Trustee/Director - Voluntary role
Age UK Wakefield District is a charitable organisation dedicated to improving the lives and wellbeing of older people in our community. We are seeking a committed, passionate, and responsible individual to join our Board of Trustees. As a Trustee, you will play a key role in overseeing the charity's operations, ensuring the effective use of resources, and supporting the charity's strategic direction in delivering services that positively impact older adults.
Key Responsibilities:

Governance and Strategy:
- Contribute to the development, approval, and review of the charity’s strategic objectives and policies.
- Ensure that the charity operates within its legal and regulatory framework, including compliance with charity law and best governance practices.
- Participate in the annual review of the charity’s mission, vision, and long-term plans.

Financial Oversight:
- Oversee the financial health of the charity, ensuring that funds are used effectively to meet the charity’s goals.
- Ensure proper risk management and internal controls are in place to protect the charity’s resources.

Fundraising and Advocacy:
- Support fundraising initiatives by helping to identify potential donors, partners, and funding opportunities.
- Promote the charity’s work and represent the charity to external stakeholders, including supporters, donors, and community groups.
- Advocate for the needs and rights of older people within the broader community and at local or national levels.

Performance Monitoring:
- Regularly assess the charity’s programs and services to ensure they meet the needs of older people and are aligned with the charity’s mission.
- Review reports and data to monitor the effectiveness of the charity’s activities and impact on beneficiaries.

Board Engagement:
- Attend Board meetings, typically once a month and participate in sub-committees as required.
- Provide advice and expertise based on personal skills and experiences to support decision-making.
- Ensure that decisions are made collectively and that the charity’s operations are transparent and accountable.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- A strong commitment to the charity’s mission and values, particularly in supporting older people.
- Previous experience in governance, management, or a related field (e.g., social services, healthcare, fundraising, finance).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to think strategically and contribute to long-term planning and decision-making..
Time Commitment:
- Trustees are expected to attend 12 meetings per year, with an estimated time commitment of 5 hours per month.
- Additional time may be required for sub-committees, fundraising events, and other initiatives.
