Pontefract ParkRun

Saturday 21st September 

ParkRun is a free exercise event which happens at hundreds of locations across the world! Luckily for us, we have a choice of ParkRun venues right on our doorstep.

Nostell Priory
Frickley Country Park
Thornes Park

To join in, all you have to do is sign up (free to do) on the ParkRun website then turn up on the next Saturday ready to get moving for 9am.  At the end of the 5K route your time is recorded by a volunteer, you're handed a barcode which gets scanned by another volunteer along with your ParkRun barcode which you are given at sign-up.  Then the rest of the day is yours! The ParkRun volunteers often go for a coffee as they sort the barcodes back ready for next week and have a chat about the event. Once the times are calculated, you receive an email letting you know your time and place within everyone who took part that day.  This is a great incentive to come back and try to get a better time!!

On the 21^st September, Age UK Wakefield District will be at Pontefract Racecourse ParkRun with an information stall to share information and wellbeing advice about the support available in our community.  We’re asking for people to come along and either sign up as a ParkRun volunteer or take part in the 5K route to support our I May Move initiative to get more people moving.

There are many volunteering roles at ParkRun with no obligation to come more than once, you can volunteer alone, as a couple, with one dog, with children and with a seat if you bring your own.  There really is the perfect role for everyone. You can find a list of the roles along with information of how to sign up here but don’t forget to get in touch with us so we can add you to the list for the 21^st September.
