Fun at Pontefract Parkrun

On Saturday 21st September staff and volunteers from Age UK Wakefield District joined the team at Pontefract Parkrun to support the fantastic event.

Signing up to volunteer at Parkrun is easy, once you've given a few basic details you receive your Parkrun number and barcode, this is yours for life so whether to volunteer or join in the exercise at any ParkRun, you use the same details.

There are lots of volunteering roles which last about an hour whilst people complete the 5K course.  Our staff, volunteers and supporters took over roles such as Barcode Scanner, Time Keeper, Marshals and Tail Walkers, all are needed for the event to happen each week.

299 people crossed the finish line on Saturday including Curtis one of our Hospital Transport Support Service drivers, the sun came out in the end and we all had a great time being involved. Being outside in nature is great for your mental health as well as your physical health, we all agreed that we enjoyed the morning and the warm welcome we received from Pontefract Parkrun.

Encouraging people to start exercising, keep fit or return to exercise is all part of our I May Move campaign which focuses on making exercise fun and accessible to all.  Parkrun is a free event and open to all ages and abilities, there’s a great sense of community and everyone is so supportive.
