Age UK Torbay has been presented with a cheque for £499, following a successful Community Matters Campaign by Waitrose Torquay.
Waitrose Torquay selected Age UK Torbay as one of three charities to benefit from their Community Matters box in the St Marychurch branch during the month of May.
Shoppers were given tokens at the end of every shop, to place in one of three boxes to support the good cause of their choice.
Helen Harman, the Age UK Torbay CO said: "We are absolutely delighted that Waitrose donated nearly £500. Age UK Torbay is committed to helping older people enjoy later life in Torbay. The funds donated by Waitrose Torquay will go towards helping us tackle loneliness and isolation amongst older people in our community, via our befriending and careline services. We also hold various social events throughout the year which enable older people to get together, have fun, enjoy company and make friends. A cup of tea, a chat and laughter with a friendly face and a listening ear can make such a difference to older people.
Carol Jackson, Community Champion, Waitrose Torquay said: "We were delighted to work with Age UK Torbay, it was a pleasure to see so many people supporting this worthwhile cause. Since the branch opened in June 2009, the branch has donated over £100,000 to good causes in the Torbay area chosen by the public. We must thank everyone who shops at our branch for their ongoing support".
