About us
We're a local charity working in the Torbay community to support older people, their families and carers. We want everyone to be able to love later life.
Who we are
Age UK Torbay is an independent local registered charity. We've been working in the local communities of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham to help older people since 1980. We have 45 dedicated staff and over 50 volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in Torbay.
Age UK Torbay is committed to making later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience for all older people in Torbay. We seek to achieve this by providing a range of care and support services to empower and enable older people to continue to live full and active lives; to participate in community activity; and to remain in good mental and physical health for as long as possible.
An important part of our work is representing older people and making their views, wishes and needs known to the appropriate authorities in Torbay. Through Age UK nationally we are also involved in campaigning on a range of key issues affecting older people.
The charity raises much of its income from fundraising. We hope that you will support the charity by making donations, volunteering and taking part in fundraising events.
Volunteers work in every activity within the organisation and find the experience to be very rewarding. If you are interested in volunteering you can find out more here.

What we do
-
We give advice
Our trained advisors offer free information and advice to older people and their families. In 2016 our advisers helped older people in Torbay to claim over £1.2 million that they were entitled to.
-
We offer home support
We offer home support services to help with household tasks which older people often find difficult to manage such as laundry, shopping and cleaning. Our services help older people to be happier in their own homes.
-
We befriend
Our volunteer befrienders visit lonely older people in the community who have no one to talk to. In 2016 our volunteers visited 24 older people who would otherwise be alone and supported 10 people with a weekly phone call.
