We offer community-based support services for people living with dementia and their carers to improve their quality of life.

Are you living with or care for someone who is living with dementia?

Age UK Thanet has a dedicated dementia organiser who can support with the following:
• Arrange weekly 1 to 1 visits at your home to help you or your loved one with cognitive and physical therapies to assist with health and wellbeing.
• To maintain the care givers social contacts and allow you to pursue your hobbies and interests while knowing that your loved one is being looked after.
• Each visit will be holistic and catered to the personal choice of the individual, therapies will include music, art, reminiscence, games, conversation and stimulating activities.
• On warm sunny days those that are able can go out for a walk in the company of the staff member to enjoy fresh air and environmental stimulus.

Dementia cafe

Age UK Thanet offer Dementia Cafes to provide a drop in service for anyone who may need support, information or advice about all aspects of Dementia. The café also offers opportunities to gain access to health and social care professionals and voluntary organisations that can support you in practical and emotional ways.

This informal get together can be attended without any booking or referral and are held in the Age UK Thanet hub in Zion Place.

If you have concerns about your own or someone else’s memory problems or have received a diagnosis of dementia why not come along?

Respite for carers

Age UK Thanet hold six weekly sessions for those who are living with dementia so that their care givers can have a couple of hours respite. Care givers will be able to meet and socialise with others who are or have had similar experiences.

Activities will be provided for those living with dementia (seated exercises, singing, board games etc), a light lunch will be provided.
