Age UK Surrey run a weekly Tuesday Lunch Club in Haslemere for older people. The Lunch Club is well-established with 20 places for people to enjoy a cooked meal and have the opportunity to chat and make friends.
When the usual venue in Haslemere experienced heating problems, the planned Christmas lunch party was in jeopardy. At short notice, Age UK Surrey reached out to the local community for help. The Three Horseshoes pub in Thursley came to the rescue by kindly offering space in their pub and kitchen to provide the lunch!
The Tuesday Lunch Club is just one of the ways in which Age UK Surrey brings people together. Sue Zirps, Chief Executive said ‘This is a real good news story and shows how when communities come together, we can achieve great outcomes – in this case a planned lunch bringing older people together to enjoy a meal, companionship and celebrations! A huge thank you to all the staff at the Three Horse Shoes and a special thank you to our volunteers and staff who made sure that everyone had a lift to and from Thursley!’.
