Creating Calm: New Sensory Garden to Support Dementia Clients
Published on 02 October 2024 10:12 AM
We’re thrilled to announce that Age UK Sunderland has secured National Lottery Awards for All England funding to create a sensory garden at the Metcalfe Dementia Centre!
At the Metcalfe Centre, we’re dedicated to supporting individuals with moderate dementia and their families by providing compassionate, person-centered care in a safe and nurturing environment. Our services include tailored activities designed to stimulate cognitive function, promote well-being, and improve the quality of life for those living with moderate dementia. This sensory garden will be a beautiful extension of the work we do, offering a calming and engaging space to support emotional, physical, and mental health.
This innovative project, in collaboration with LG Designer Maker CIC, Newcastle Wood Recycling CIC, and Bishopwearmouth Co-Operative Community Interest Company, will enhance the therapeutic environment for individuals. We’re incredibly proud of this initiative and can’t wait to see the positive impact it will have on our community, helping people live happier, more fulfilling lives.
Huge thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund for making this possible!
Work has started this week so stay tuned for updates!
