International Day of Older Persons 2019

To celebrate the International Day of Older Persons on Tuesday 1st October 2019. Sunderland City Council Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, Councillor Doctor Geoffrey Walker, joined members of Age UK Sunderland’s Older People’s Council at one of their regular meetings to sign an open public letter calling for more respect and equality for older people.
Age UK Sunderland’s Redwood Day Centre celebrated the day with afternoon tea and had a performance by Kayley Cares V...intage Singer. The clients had a very enjoyable afternoon.
Age UK Sunderland also held a drop in session with free hot drink and cake at 26 Stockton Road, for people aged over 50. Staff were available to share information about services and support available to enhance later life.
Tracy Collins, Director of Age UK Sunderland said: “It is all-important to see respect and dignity afforded to older people in Sunderland, we believe that positive ageing is pivotal to achieving this. Services need to give older people that opportunity, as well as support, care and compassion”.
