Age UK Staffordshire Announces Strategic Changes to Enhance Services
Published on 07 December 2023 12:00 AM
Local charity Age UK Staffordshire is embarking on an exciting journey of transformation by strategically reshaping its operations, including the decision to close its Burton-on-Trent site located at the Voluntary Service Centre, Union Street.
The transition is driven by the charity’s commitment to delivering impactful and sustainable services to older people across Staffordshire. The closure of the Burton site is part of a larger strategy aimed at strengthening the charity’s financial position and ensuring its ongoing ability to support the elderly population in Staffordshire.
Age UK Staffordshire’s site in Burton has been a beloved fixture in the community, particularly known for its Lunch Club that has been running for over 30 years.
The Lunch Club’s final guests attended at the end of November 2023, but Age UK Staffordshire is actively exploring ways to ensure the legacy of the Lunch Club lives on. The charity intends to engage with local partners and volunteers to explore opportunities for Lunch Club to continue at an alternative venue in Burton.
The changes will not impact the availability of the Care Line service, which will continue to provide valuable support to those in need.
Furthermore, the Help At Home Service in Burton and surrounding areas will continue unabated, continuing to provide vital assistance to those living independently or as a couple in their own home.
Carl Bennett, Chief Executive Officer at Age UK Staffordshire, said: “Age UK Staffordshire is proud to advocate for older people and their families, in Burton and across the entire Staffordshire region.
“We remain resolute in the face of the Cost of Living Crisis, dedicated to improving the lives of our local older population.
“Thoughtful and strategic adjustments will enable Age UK Staffordshire to position itself to be an even more effective support system for older people during these challenging times.”
The Age UK Staffordshire Board of Trustees, in collaboration with its dedicated volunteer and staff team, remain committed to ensuring that core services endure and thrive in the evolving landscape.
