Digital Inclusion Programme
As you know, essential services, such as banking, tax, shopping and health services, are increasingly becoming 'digital first'. Older people who do not have access to the internet or lack the necessary skills are now at increased risk of missing out.
How digital exclusion disproportionately impacts older people:
- Age is the biggest indicator of being digitally excluded, with the risk increasing with age.
- Almost 5 million people over the age of 55 are not online.
- 79% of older people who would like to use the internet more say a lack of skills is the thing holding them back.
What is the Age UK South Gloucestershire Digital Inclusion Programme?
The Digital Inclusion Programme will address digital skills support, and the provision of relevant technology & connectivity by:
- Our dedicated staff team and our Volunteer Digital Champions will inspire and motivate older people to get online and encourage and support them to develop their digital skills and confidence in group or one-to-one sessions.
- These will be learner-led sessions that focus on what is important to the individual or what they are most interested in.
- Provision of free loan tablets and internet connectivity so that people who would otherwise not have access are able to give it a go and see if it's right for them.
Is there a cost for this service?
No, our Digital Inclusion Programme is funded by a grant and is therefore free.
