What is the Wellbeing Friends programme?

This free programme, part of the Wellbeing service, matches a friendly volunteer with an older client in their local area for a regular home visit to provide companionship and a window to the outside world.

It’s all about reducing loneliness, creating new friendships, and providing some enjoyable company and conversation to brighten the day. It is not about providing home help, transport or a shopping service.

Who is Wellbeing Friends for?

Those aged over 60 in Somerset and North Somerset who live alone and may sometimes feel lonely, isolated, or low.

The service provides an alternative to our Walk and Talk programme for those who may be less able to leave their homes.

How to apply for the Wellbeing Friends service

Due to high demand we are temporarily putting new applications for our Wellbeing Friends service on hold while we match those already on our waiting list. We will review the situation again in the Spring and will then give a further update on welcoming new clients to the service.

This is part of our Wellbeing Service

Our Wellbeing Service is about ensuring that older people have the opportunity to lead the very best life they can. Because growing older is a different experience for everyone, the Wellbeing Service offers a range of different elements - such as Walk and Talk, Wellbeing Friends, Friendly Phone Calls and Chat and Map - to help individuals feel less lonely, always listened to and given the tailored support they need to improve their quality of life.
