This is part of our Wellbeing Service

Our Wellbeing Service is about ensuring that older people have the opportunity to lead the very best life they can. Because growing older is a different experience for everyone, the Wellbeing Service offers a range of different elements - such as Walk and Talk, Wellbeing Friends, Friendly Phone Calls and Chat and Map - to help individuals feel less lonely, always listened to and given the tailored support they need to improve their quality of life.

What is 'Walk and Talk'?

Our free ’Walk and Talk’ service aims to support older people who live alone, may be feeling isolated and would like some company and encouragement to get out and appreciate the benefits that being outdoors has on emotional, mental and physical wellbeing.

What does the Walk and Talk service offer?

After clients have registered they will be matched with a suitable volunteer as soon as one is available.  Clients will be visited by the volunteer on a regular basis, and together they will go out for a short walk starting from, and returning to, the client’s home.

The pace of the walks will be set by the client and will not be strenuous.  Every client is different and so the duration of the walks will be tailored to their needs and wishes.  The social aspect of having a friendly chat during the meeting is seen as just as important as the walk!

What are the benefits of the service?

  • A reduction in feelings of loneliness or isolation
  • Improvement in emotional, mental and physical wellbeing
  • An increase in confidence
  • An increase in fitness
  • Meeting new people, making new connections
  • Being introduced to new activities in the area
