We may be able to support pensioner households who are struggling with energy, water bills and other related essentials due to rising living costs this winter.

To be eligible, pensioners must:

  • Live in the borough of Solihull
  • Have savings of, or below £10,000 (per pensioner in the household)
  • Have a household income of, or below, £31,000
  • Have someone living in the household with one of the listed vulnerabilities:
    • Long term diagnosed and treated health conditions (physical or mental)
    • Households with unmanageable debts
    • Disabled and in receipt of DLA or PIP
    • In receipt of Carers Allowance
    • In receipt of Housing Benefit only (not as part of Universal Credit)
    • In receipt of Council Tax Support (not single person discount)
    • In receipt of Employment Support Allowance
    • In receipt of Limited capability for work related activities allowance
    • In receipt of State Pension
    • In receipt of benefits related free school meals not universal free school meals
    • Referral from a foodbank, school, charity/voluntary organisation including Age UK Solihull & health care professionals
  • Be in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits:
    • State Pension
    • Income Support
    • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
    • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
    • Universal Credit
    • Pension credit guarantee
    • Working Tax credit
    • Disability Living Allowance
    • Personal Independence Payment

Support we may be able to offer:

  • Support with fuel debt
  • Support with water debt
  • Emergency heating servicing and repairs
  • Support Pensioners with an energy prepaid card if they are not eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment (maximum income applies)
  • White Goods and Furniture 
  • Emergency food and clothing

The helpline offers advice, tips and practical help on keeping warm and making your home more energy efficient. The service is not just for older or unwell residents; it is for anyone who needs help staying warm this winter.

Our advisors can help with issues such as:

  • Providing emergency heaters if your heating breaks down
  • Receiving a ‘Safe and Well’ visit from West Midlands Fire Service
  • Making a ‘Warm Home Discount’ application and joining the ‘Priority Services Register’
  • Finding a tradesperson for emergency repairs
  • Practical help on making your home warmer this winter
  • Benefits and debt advice
