World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Support #WEAAD2025
Wear purple, or arrange purple-themed activities, and donate to Age UK Solihull for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on Sunday 15 June 2025 (or any day that week).
Wear purple for a purpose
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) takes place every year on 15 June. It's a time to raise our voices against the abuse and neglect of older people, and to stand up for their rights, safety, and dignity.
Elder abuse is unacceptable and that it can be prevented through education, prevention, and support for older adults and their families.
This year, we are asking you to join us and Solihull Safeguarding Adults Board Business Team by wearing purple – the colour of dignity – and helping us raise vital funds to support older people in Solihull.
Why it matters
Elder abuse is a growing but often hidden issue. It can be physical, emotional, financial, or the result of neglect – and it affects people in every community, including here in Solihull.
At Age UK Solihull, we support local older people who may be vulnerable, isolated, or at risk of abuse. We provide advice, safeguarding support, befriending, and more, to ensure that every older person in our borough feels safe, respected, and heard.
But we can’t do this alone. We need your help.
How you can get involved
1. Wear purple for the day
Whether you’re at home, at work, or out in the community – wear something purple on or around 15 June to show your support. from a whole outfit to a purple t-shirt, wig, scarf, tie or even socks – every little bit helps raise awareness.
Please also make a donation to Age UK Solihull to help us to continue our work with vulnerable older people. And take a photo and share it with us on social media using #WEAAD2025 and tag @AgeUKSolihull.
