Solihull Winter Warmth Campaign 2022/23
Published on 12 October 2022 01:27 PM
The Solihull Winter Warmth Campaign delivered by Age UK Solihull is supporting vulnerable residents this winter.
The annual campaign that has been running since 2008 provides information, advice and practical support to people with disabilities and long-term conditions that make them more vulnerable to the effects of cold weather.
People who have conditions such as COPD and other respiratory illness, heart conditions, diabetes, dementia or are over 85 years of age are most at risk of hospitalisation during the winter.
The current cost of living crisis and high energy bills are resulting in some households rationing their use of heating and other appliances. For many, this will lead to illness and exacerbation of existing medical conditions.
Vulnerable households should aim to keep their main living areas at between 18C and 21C.
The Winter Warmth Campaign can support vulnerable households with:
- Emergency oil-filled radiators if you have a heating breakdown. We can also try to arrange a Gas Safe Engineer to fix the problem
- An electric underblanket* to keep you warm at night
- Blankets and duvets
- Help with fuel debt and energy company disputes
- Information and advice on how to use your heating and appliances more efficiently and the cost of living support that is available to you
- A Solihull Winter Warmth Campaign Temperature Card
*If you already have an electric blanket we can swap it for a new one if it is over three years old or has any visible signs or wear and tear.
We can also provide temporary heaters if you have a heating breakdown and in some cases we may be able to support you with fuel debt and replacement white goods if yours are broken or inefficient.
