Birmingham Business Park extends partnership to support local older people

Age UK Solihull was voted as Birmingham Business Park’s charity of the year for 2019, and the park has announced that the partnership will continue for 2020.
The Business Park, which is home to over 150 companies and 10,000 employees, has already supported us with a number of activities and events. These include collecting food and Easter eggs for the charity’s clients, dedicating two allotment beds for green-fingered older people to tend and take home the produce and hosting an Easter-basket making workshop. Age UK Solihull’s Fundraising team has also been welcomed at various events on the park, including a recent ‘Grease’ Movie Day (pictured), to promote the charity.
Going forward, we will build on the partnership we have developed, hoping to raise much-needed funds for our charity.
The Business Park will be taking part in Slip Into Slippers, where people wear slippers to work on 1 October 2019 and donate £1 in recognition of International Day of Older Persons.
A Smartphone Quiz, sponsored by the Business Park, is also planned for Tuesday 10 March 2020. This will take place at Resorts World and it is hoped that several businesses based on the park will put a team in.
In the meantime, Age UK Solihull’s clients have been invited to two Christmas events hosted by the park. They will be able to make and take home a beautiful Christmas wreath at a workshop on Thursday 5 December, and they can enjoy carols, food and wear festive jumpers at a Christmas event on Thursday 19 December.
Age UK Solihull offers support to older people in the borough with issues faced in later life, as well as supporting over 18s in Solihull with information and advice, via its Community Advice Hubs at Solihull and Chelmsley Wood libraries.
Despite the ‘UK’ in our name, Age UK Solihull is a local charity, so all money raised from the partnership with Birmingham Business Park stays in the borough.
Lorraine Hart, Fundraising Manager, said, “We are excited to be working with Birmingham Business Park for a second year. We have built a great partnership during 2019 and we’re looking forward to building on it further next year.
“The events planned will not only raise vital funds for the charity but also directly involve some of our clients. Linking up with the park will also help to promote the great work that the charity does for local older people amongst the businesses on the site, many of whom will have family members who may need our support.”
Liz Allister, Park Development Manager at Birmingham Business Park said, “We are delighted to extend our partnership with such a worthwhile local charity as Age UK Solihull for a second year. We look forward to supporting with events, activities, and food donations throughout the rest of 2019 and 2020 to help Age UK Solihull improve the lives of local older people.”
