Eddie the Eagle helped fundraising soar!

Local older people’s charity, Age UK Solihull, is £2,300 better off following a recent fundraising event featuring Olympic skier, Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards in partnership with Solihull School.

The event, sponsored by Solihull eye consultants, Midland Eye, was attended by The Worshipful the Mayor Councillor Mr Stuart Davis, who opened the event and drew the raffle.

Eddie gave an animated talk about his life leading up to his historic jumps at the 1988 Winter Olympics, as well as regaling how a film about his life came to be made. He also held a Q&A session, which covered everything from his appearance on the TV series “Splash” to the type of skis he uses.

Money raised from the event will help Age UK Solihull continue to support older people in the borough with the challenges faced in later life.

Lorraine Hart, Fundraising Manager at Age UK Solihull, says, “It was a fantastic evening and guests gave us some great feedback on how much they enjoyed the event. Eddie was truly inspiring and a lovely fella to boot. He posed for lots of photos and signed numerous autographs. We are grateful to him and to Solihull School, Midland Eye, all the volunteers who helped on the evening and local businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes”.
