Digital champion volunteer
As a digital champion you could provide digital skill support and training to older people in Shropshire or Telford & Wrekin.
What do digital champions do?
The internet can bring the world to our fingertips, but did you know that 2.3 million older people are not internet users? Offline, and overlooked, it is becoming increasingly difficult for older people to maintain their independence and dignity as access to services becomes digital-by-default.
Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin's digital champions are matched with local older people who wish to learn how to get online. They meet for several weekly or fortnightly sessions to provide coaching and guidance on how to use digital services such as email, web browsing, online shopping, and banking services. Digital champions will also have the opportunity to help run group training sessions for up to six older people.
What you will get out of it
- It's a great way to make a real difference to someone's life
- You'll be giving something to your community
- You get to be part of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin's volunteer team
- Volunteers tell us they find sharing skills really rewarding
What is expected of me?
Digital champions are expected to commit to visit a client for 6-8 weekly or fortnightly sessions, to patiently and clearly tutor the client on digital skill topics, and to tailor the sessions to focus on what the older person expresses they would like to learn. This role will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which we will organise for you.
